Government subsidized housing (also known as "Public Housing") begin in 1938. Since the beginning of these governmental funded programs through public housing, thousands of families have received living assistance.
While many families have applied for these programs as a mean of survival to continue their education while working or to use public housing as a crutch to get on their feet; have others used these programs as a joke?
Driving through one of the local neighborhoods in town I couldn't help but to notice one of the public housing properties. With every negative persona you could think of from sagging pants, loud music coming from cars, $4000.00 car rims on $800.00 cars, gold teeth, low hanging chains (necklace), unattended babies with no shirt or shoes on their feet, loud talking women, windows open in apartment complex with curtain blowing outward, overflowing trash bins, busted beer bottles in the parking lots, community play ground with no equipment, legal age men walking around with pajama's on in the afternoon and an old ladies on a hoover-rounds.
I quickly began to think to myself where went the quality and the safe haven of that community? After driving by I was only certain of one thing and that was "they were affordable." Have the government dropped the ball on ensuring these properties are well kept or does the down fall of these properties fall on the back to the citizens?
